So Your Life is Over

So Your Life is Over

While I was complaining the other day about having to go somewhere and socialise when I was really looking forward to slumming it on the couch in some sweats, I was given the advice that I should take these opportunities whilst I still can.

Because once baby comes along... well it becomes a hell of a lot harder to just pop out for coffee or go to a late night movie. So before "my life is over", I'm trying my best to get out and about!

Bits and Bumps

I am very slowly inching towards halfway through my pregnancy, and as I finally begin to 'show' just a little bit, it prompted me to think about a certain taboo topic that all pregnant women encounter... bump etiquette.

It's a bit controversial when you start browsing for opinions; some women find it a completely inappropriate, while others welcome the attention like a puppy dog. But can your opinion change once you encounter it? Let's find out in Bits and Bumps!

The P Word

The P Word

Christmas is a time of festivities, family, and fun, and it is also a time of procrastination as our days and weekends in the lead up to December 25th, fill up with office parties, get-togethers and lunch dates. These jam packed itineraries offer easy excuses for not cleaning the car, for not attending those seven pump classes you signed up for, and excuses for not writing a single sentence beyond the 1000 words written for your second book back in October, when you had the pipe dream of 'finishing by Christmas'.

Bits and Bubs

Bits and Bubs

Admittedly the title might be a bit of a giveaway to my latest big news, and a contributor to my suspicious absence over the Christmas period... but just to be really clear, I am officially knocked up!

Having been as clucky as Chicken Little for some time now, I can say that we are over the moon with the news. As such, I thought it only necessary to keep you up-to-date with this new chapter in the Story of my Life.

Beauty Duty - Eyes

Beauty Duty - Eyes

It certainly wouldn't be my deepest darkest confession to admit that I love makeup, so it should come as no surprise that I have a decent stash in my bedroom drawers. And while some items might seem similar, or even duplicates, each has it's own purpose.

This principle applies to all my beauty products too, as my bathroom drawers are almost as full as my make up ones! As such, I thought it an opportune time to share some of my good finds over the years in Beauty Duty!

Moschino - SS15 - Runway Capsule Collection

As someone who was somewhat of a tomboy growing up, I can say with assurity and pride, that I have since sucumbed to more feminine pursuits. Ahem... my shoe collection would be just one example. And alongside this, I have also developed a love of the colour pink!

So when Moschino captioned their Spring/Summer 15 Runway Capsule Collection with 'Think Pink', it was like fashion candy!

Growing Up

Growing Up

Yet again, I feel I need to start this post with an apology. Neglect is an ugly word, so instead I will say I have been inattentive to Writing in Heels over the past two weeks, but without trying to excuse myself altogether, I think I have some reasonable excuses this time around...

I might only be at the ripe old age of 27, but over the past two weeks I've done some pretty grown up things. We bought a house, I got a new job, and... we have bought a puppy!

Don't You Know Who I Am?

Don't You Know Who I Am?

It's a phrase made famous by the famous, normally exclaimed by a celebrity in a moment of frustration. But this cringe worthy expression is rather fitting for the next segment in my Writing in Heels journey...

Having published my book, set up my media kit, and snapped some professional-ish author photos, I was now ready to tell people who I am. A lesson in Self Promotion 101.

But Wait… There's More!

But Wait… There's More!

Normally the expression "But wait... there's more!" refers to those infamous home shopping commercials offering up two for the price of one deals on everything from vacuums to a convertible TV dinner table.

But when it comes to writing, or more specifically, the world of self publishing, this expression is applicable in every sense of the word! It's been a little while since I published Four of a Kind, but wait.. . there is definitely more!

Femme Fatale - Jessica Alba

Femme Fatale - Jessica Alba

She's beautiful, down-to-earth, and seemingly has it all with a successful acting career, her own natural product company, hot hubby and two adorable children. She's Jessica Alba, and she's also my number one girl crush.

Normally when people tick so many boxes, we look upon them with resentment but with Jess (can I call her that?) it's hard to feel anything but admiration as she seems to radiate niceness! She quite possibly could be the very definition of the Femme Fatale.

Turning Japanese - Electrifying Tokyo Pt 2

Continuing with my travel stories of The Land of the Rising Sun, day two of Tokyo saw us head south again to Shibuya, just a short two-stop trip on the train. Home of the Shibuya pedestrian crossing, an iconic spot of modern Japan, that often provides the backdrop for ten second snippets of movie footage set in Tokyo.

Is it really as crazy-busy as Hollywood portrays? The pics can speak for themselves...

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

...Who's the vainest of them all? That might be a bit of a stretch as mirrors certainly still play a functional role in society (at times!), but with new technology, and an abundance of apps and gadgets, there seems to be a new focus on sharing our reflections.

And with the dawning of what has become the age of the 'selfie', one can't help but question whether we're creating art, a bit of fun, or personal propaganda.

The Banana Story

The Banana Story

Deprivation. It's not a new idea that when we deprive ourselves of something, it tends to make us desire it even more so. To the point where you normally reach breaking point and end up bingeing on an entire tub of Ben and Jerry's.

But we're not just talking food... we deprive ourselves of many things in life. And it almost seems that the moment we deny ourselves is the exact moment our craving peaks. Is there a correlation here? Are deprivation and desire inextricably linked?

Skeletons in the Closet

Skeletons in the Closet

We've all seen circumstances of private items getting thrust into the public eye, whether it's the latest celebrity sex tape, stories of teenage misdemeanour, or even just that ghastly high school year book picture that still torments you when you see it.

Often we can laugh these moments off, others may play havoc with our emotions, and then sometimes, these exposés can go so far as to affect our careers. But is it fair for an employer to go looking for your Skeletons in the Closet?
