So Your Life is Over

So Your Life is Over

While I was complaining the other day about having to go somewhere and socialise when I was really looking forward to slumming it on the couch in some sweats, I was given the advice that I should take these opportunities whilst I still can.

Because once baby comes along... well it becomes a hell of a lot harder to just pop out for coffee or go to a late night movie. So before "my life is over", I'm trying my best to get out and about!

Bits and Bumps

I am very slowly inching towards halfway through my pregnancy, and as I finally begin to 'show' just a little bit, it prompted me to think about a certain taboo topic that all pregnant women encounter... bump etiquette.

It's a bit controversial when you start browsing for opinions; some women find it a completely inappropriate, while others welcome the attention like a puppy dog. But can your opinion change once you encounter it? Let's find out in Bits and Bumps!

Bits and Bubs

Admittedly the title might be a bit of a giveaway to my latest big news, and a contributor to my suspicious absence over the Christmas period... but just to be really clear, I am officially knocked up!

Having been as clucky as Chicken Little for some time now, I can say that we are over the moon with the news. As such, I thought it only necessary to keep you up-to-date with this new chapter in the Story of my Life.

Growing Up

Growing Up

Yet again, I feel I need to start this post with an apology. Neglect is an ugly word, so instead I will say I have been inattentive to Writing in Heels over the past two weeks, but without trying to excuse myself altogether, I think I have some reasonable excuses this time around...

I might only be at the ripe old age of 27, but over the past two weeks I've done some pretty grown up things. We bought a house, I got a new job, and... we have bought a puppy!

Turning Japanese - Electrifying Tokyo Pt 2

Continuing with my travel stories of The Land of the Rising Sun, day two of Tokyo saw us head south again to Shibuya, just a short two-stop trip on the train. Home of the Shibuya pedestrian crossing, an iconic spot of modern Japan, that often provides the backdrop for ten second snippets of movie footage set in Tokyo.

Is it really as crazy-busy as Hollywood portrays? The pics can speak for themselves...

Work to Live or Live to Work

Work to Live or Live to Work

I'm sure practically all of you out there will have heard of the phrase 'Work to live or Live to work' before and taken a brief moment to contemplate the meaning.

Well, me being the over analytical (and not in a calculative, numbers or business type way), constantly searching for a greater depth to something which is probably intended to be one dimensional , person that I am, have recently begun to think about this phrase a wee bit more...

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween

The spooky season is almost upon us and as it draws oh so close, I thought it appropriate to do a Halloween post, namely so I could share these adorable Fanged Pumpkins that I happen to see on... *cough cough* The Martha Stewart Show - Hey, I was unemployed at the time, Martha at least provided some slightly educational TV time, albeit a slight domesticity angle.

And as I thought about a Halloween blog, I thought you know what, let's not do the whole 'commercial exploitation' thing, because Halloween is quite simply fun!

Elephants and Bicycles

It's been a wee while since I've had a "proper job", and by proper, what I'm really trying to say is one that funds my growing shoe wardrobe, but since moving to New Zealand my prospects of employment increased tenfold. Where Melbourne was a dry desert wasteland, Wellington is an oasis of opportunity to the point where I had barely even acquired a door, before the opportunities came a knockin'.

Admittedly they weren't straight up offers rolling on in, but something on my CV was enticing enough to lure interest...

The 'F' Word

The 'F' Word

After a long period of time hunting for work in Melbourne, My husband and I have made the decision and are making the move back to our previous hometown, Wellington, New Zealand.

What was perhaps most interesting however, was when we both acknowledged it as the 'right' decision, at the same time, there was a sense of sadness about the whole thing, because we had essentially made a commitment of sorts to stay in Melbourne post-wedding, and to now be up and leaving, leaves us with a feeling of defeat, like somehow, we are almost giving up. We have failed.

Shazzle Dazzle - Wigs, Schwings and Pussy Galore

No, it's not the name of a bad porno, and don't pretend you weren't thinking something dirty. Instead, this latest segment within the Rabbit Hole is a bit of an insight into what's trending in my world.

That's right, we all have our own little short-term fetishes and sometimes these might be in reaction to celebrities or a mainstream trend, but if you're anything like me, then often you simply discover something you like and regardless of whether it's on trend or not, you're adamant that it's cool enough for you.

The (Reoccurring) Quarter Life Crisis

I know no one likes to read a blog that is filled with whinging, and believe me this is not a disclaimer to say that this is the underlying theme of this post, but there's really no point in having a website if one cannot express their thoughts - which may sometimes err on the side of nonsensical, unbecoming or discontented ranting.

To be slightly clearer, this post probably falls into a cross between nonsensical and discontented ranting, in that it is a myriad of thoughts that I merely feel the need to express in the best way I know how... via the written word.

Not-So General Knowledge

Not-So General Knowledge

Not so long ago, my hubby and I were sitting down for dinner at the dining room table - a gesture I much prefer above eating in front of the TV, even when it is just the two of us and we've been in each others company for most of the day and therefore conversation topics are fairly limited - and be it because conversation topics were fairly limited, we began discussing the topic of today's 'youth'. Specifically, we were talking about how 'general knowledge' seems to have fallen by the wayside, and it's not just the newer generations (much to my relief), it's across the board! So how do you fare? Read on and take my three question quiz to find out!

The Donut Diaries Pt. One - The Search For The Hole-y Grail

The Donut Diaries Pt. One - The Search For The Hole-y Grail

While I am admittedly a bit of a health freak, eating an almost completely vegetarian diet with the exception of the odd bit of fish and on rarer occasions chicken breast, and also being a 100% total self-confessed gym bunny, like Anakin Skywalker, I do have a bit of a darkside... and that side is a sweet tooth the size of the Ghostbusters' Marshmallow Man.

Yet don't let this sweet side fool you, when it comes to sweet treats I don't discriminate, sampling from all ends of the spectrum; candy, chocolate, confectionery, desserts, baked goods... but perhaps my favourite treat and baked good of all time is in fact the donut.

Friend Dating

Friend Dating

Allow me to introduce you to the new dating game in town - Friend Dating, and no, just for immediate clarification, I'm not talking about hooking into your ex-nextdoor neighbour who you grew up playing Tekken with, or your buddy who you used to head to the pub with every friday afternoon for some pints and pool. No this dating game isn't about trying to get you more action in the bedroom, or identify one of your 'friends' as something more, this game is about something that we tend to forget about after the first awkward week of high school... making friends.
