Vanilla Thoughts

For those general conversations... I'd like to say politics and current affairs, but that's not quite my cup of tea - think more along the lines of those every day thoughts that need a home.

Not-So General Knowledge

Not so long ago, my hubby and I were sitting down for dinner at the dining room table - a gesture I much prefer above eating in front of the TV, even when it is just the two of us and we've been in each others company for most of the day and therefore conversation topics are fairly limited - and be it because conversation topics were fairly limited, we began discussing the topic of today's 'youth'. Specifically, we were talking about how 'general knowledge' seems to have fallen by the wayside, and it's not just the newer generations (much to my relief), it's across the board! So how do you fare? Read on and take my three question quiz to find out!

Sense of Beauty - Gorgeous Gaps

Everyday, whether intentionally or not, we scrutinise others in some form or another. Furthermore, we are often even prompted to do so through the proliferation of magazines that constantly criticise how celebrities look, how much they weigh or what's happening in their personal lives. Yes, arguably for public figures it comes with the territory, the unfortunate downside of the fame game, and while most of us are all probably guilty of indulging in the latest fat-snap bikini shots or plastic surgery horrors, we shouldn't endorse this negativity - even though I realise that by purchasing those mag's, we are unintentionally doing so. Thus, what is the answer?

Friend Dating

Allow me to introduce you to the new dating game in town - Friend Dating, and no, just for immediate clarification, I'm not talking about hooking into your ex-nextdoor neighbour who you grew up playing Tekken with, or your buddy who you used to head to the pub with every friday afternoon for some pints and pool. No this dating game isn't about trying to get you more action in the bedroom, or identify one of your 'friends' as something more, this game is about something that we tend to forget about after the first awkward week of high school... making friends.

Sin or Saint Valentine's Day

It is that time of year again where we are visually assaulted with an array of love hearts, teddy bears, chocolates and of course, the pièce de résistance; dozens and dozens of red roses - all in the name of love. But as we hit this time of year, we also are confronted with the age old debate about the meaning, and more to the point, the integrity of Valentine's Day. Is it a commercial exploit or is there something to this day which warrants a little frivolity?

Fake or Faux Pas

Fake or Faux Pas

The 21st Century has seen pressures on the beauty and fashion industry to adopt a more 'natural' looking beauty. There is a line beginning to form, woman are being criticised for being too 'fake' and masking our real selves. Is fake merely enhancing our natural beauty, or is fake a big faux pas?

New Year’s Resolutions – Friend or Foe

Surely by writing down the things we want to do in the New Year we are more likely to achieve them? There must be a positive correlation there... But what about when we don't? Are we simply creating written evidence of our lack of achievement, reminding us instead of our failures? New Years Resolutions... friend or foe?
